Wigton Colts finished their home fixtures in style against North East visitors Percy Park as they emerged 65-12 winners.
The Greens have hit a rich vein of form over the last two months and are now seeing the benefits of regular training and commitment to play reaping the rewards.
In front of a big home support, once they got rid of the dustiness of an 18th birthday celebration held the night before, for scrum half Josh Sloan they played at pace ans moved the ball wide into space at every opportunity.
Strong running from the forwards, punching holes and looking to off-load to keep the continuity, never let a Percy Park defence settle or respond with any pressure of their own.
The Wigton back-line has also improved their skill-set as the season has progressed and slick handling or intelligent kicking into space led to some exciting attacking play.
Percy Park only managed two tries in what was another good defensive effort from Wigton to back up last week’s attitude to defence.
The last few weeks has seen the inclusion of some of the successful Under-16s to aid with transition for next season and they have added to the development of this team.
Wigton scored tries through hard working prop Oliver Jarret who crossed four times, winger Euan Fletcher (2), Mike Dodd, Alfie Warwick, Huw Llyod, Ollie Hewitson and Jude Wilkinson. Jayden French landed five conversions.
They are back on the road on Sunday to Whitley Bay for the final game of the season, where the coaching staff of Baz Sloan, Chris Smith, Steven Benson and all the parents who have provided excellent support throughout the age grade levels will ensure a good day out.
