West Cumbria junior female boxer Marshall Miller has been selected for the England development pathway.
Marshall, a member of Workington Amateur Boxing Club, took part in the National Junior Championships finals last month which she was observed by England boxing coaches, which has led to her being selected to take part in this year’s development phase.
Fellow junior boxer Elliot Murray was also given the opportunity to compete in Denmark last weekend.
An unbeaten and technically gifted Norwegian opponent stood in the way of at the gold medal in the final, which Elliot prevailed, delivering a career best display.
Head coach Joe Dryden said: “I am immensely proud of both boxers and there dedication to the sport, as well as others in the gym, the club is heading in the right direction with a big announcement to come next week.”
Fellow coach Graham Shepherd said: “Hard work will beat talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
The club was given a further boost with a £250 donation from West Coast Competitions.
