Former Barrow full-back Tyrell Warren has become Grimsby Town’s first signing of the close season.

The Manchester-born Warren has joined the Mariners on a two-year deal following the expiry of his contract at AFC Barrow after the completion of the 2023/24 campaign.

In two years with the Bluebirds he played in 61 League and Cup fixtures, featuring 18 times last season when he scored twice in League Two.

After his early days in the Manchester United Academy, Warren joined Salford City U21s before spells on loan at Radcliffe and Boston United respectively.

He joined Boston on a free in September 2020 and spent a year and a half with the Pilgrims.

With National League experience at Halifax and two years at Barrow in League Two, he joins Grimsby with experience and versatility having played in central defence and right midfield as well his natural position of right-back.

Warren featured in both meetings with the Mariners last season and becomes David Artell’s

Head Coach Artell said: “We’ve moved quickly to get it done. He’s got an impressive pedigree coming through Manchester United, he’s now found his feet in professional football and done well under Pete (Wild) at Barrow.

“We feel as though there’s even more to come, so we’re looking forward to developing him and making even better than what he already is, we’re really excited.”

On making the move Warren said: “I’m very happy to be here, I can’t wait to get started.

“I had a zoom meeting with the gaffer and it was really good, I was very impressed with what I was shown.”

The deal is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
