
Steven Rigg has re-signed for Workington after enjoying what was his best season for the Reds.
He scored 12 goals in his 29 starts, which statistically was his most productive in three previous seasons with the Borough Park side.
Keswick-based Rigg, 31, started his career with his hometown club in the Westmorland League before sampling semi-pro football for the first time at Penrith.
He had two prolific years with the Bonnyblues when he scored 64 goals in 85 games which attracted the attention of Carlisle United and he turned pro in 2014.
Riggy played 36 games in Division Two for Carlisle, and scored six goals and also had a game on loan at Barrow.
He subsequently played for Queen of the South, Carlisle again and then Chorley from whom he was loaned by Reds in 2018 when he scored four times in 12 games.
Spells at Gateshead and Dover, which produced 86 games (split almost identically) before he joined Reds in 2021 and he has been with the club ever since. In total he has made 82 starts, played 47 from the bench and has scored 30 goals.
After signing he said: “I think all the changes around the club are really exciting and improving on last year, so I think next season will be a good challenge.”
His new manager Mark Fell added: “Riggy is a player I;ve admired for years so I’m really looking forward to working with him. He’s technically excellent and can be utilised in different ways.
“He has a history of scoring a lot of goals so we need to ensure we create chances for him and have him operating nin areas where he can convert these.
“It’s also good to have another experienced player back on board to guide the younger lads.”
