Barrow Raiders were well beaten 54-12 in their Championship clash at York City Knights and are now next-to-bottom.
It was a disappointing performance throughout from the south Cumbrians who were well off the pace, almost throughout.
They trailed 32-6 at half-time with the game virtually lost by then as York made them pay for crucial mistakes in vital areas.
It had taken only six minutes for York to take the lead when some slick passing across the line ended with Joe Brown going over for an unconverted try.
It was Brown again who was on the end of more smart handling by York after 12 minutes and this time Will Dagger’s conversion attempt came back off the post.
A disastrous start for the Raiders continued on 18 minutes when Sam Cook threw a dummy to confuse the Barrow defence before he went over and this time Dagger converted for a 14-0 lead.
But on 22 minutes there was hope for Barrow when Brad Walker chipped the ball through and Jarrad Stack had read it well to get on the end and touchdown. Ryan Johnston converted and it should have been game on.
On 27 minutes York were back in after two attempted Barrow interceptions failed and Brad Ward was left with an unopposed run to the line. Dagger converted.
Four minutes later York went over again, this time through Connor Bailey who spun out of a tackle and took defenders over the line with him. Dagger converted.
The last try of the half came on 34 minutes when Jack Teanby shrugged off some weak tackles to go over and Dagger converted.
Right on the hooter Brown was sent to the sin bin but even with 12 men they were first to score in the second-half. They moved the ball wide and Oli Field got over in the corner for an unconverted try.
There was more agony for the Raiders when, on 48 minutes, Liam Harris made an interception and went the length of the field to score under the posts for Dagger to convert.
Strangely, given their big lead, the Knights opted for a kick at goal when they were awarded a penalty on 57 minutes with Dagger doing the necessary.
The half century came up on 64 minutes when Harris broke through two tackles to score and Dagger added the extras.
There was some joy for the Raiders on 70 minutes when Andrew Bulman picked-up a loose ball and was able to go clear to score, with Johnston converting.
Four minutes from the end former Whitehaven half-back Nikau Williams got over for a try but Dagger’s conversion attempt sailed wide.
