As expected Workington Town ended their losing sequence with a comprehensive 44-0 win at bottom side Newcastle Thunder.
The Thunder are led by former Town coach Chris Thorman and haven’t picked up a point so far, after being thrust back into competitive action after it had looked as though they were pulling out of the League.
Town weren’t there to take pity and in a perfectly symmetrical performance scored 22 points in each half.
They scored eight tries, six of which were converted by Carl Forber.
The first had come soon after the kick-off when Tommy Brierley went over in the corner for the only first-half try that Forber could not convert.
Town continued to dominate the game and hooker Matty Henson was the next to get over the home line.
Zarrin Galea was the next to cross after throwing an outrageous dummy to bamboozle the Newcastle defender.
Town’s latest recruit big, experienced forward Brad Brennan then used his strength and determination to force his way over for the fourth try before half-time.
It was Forber who got things going in the second half when he darted over for a try before adding the extras.
Brennan then followed him over with his second, again converted by Forber but he could not improve the third second-half try as Joe Hartley steamed over after taking a cut-out pass from Jason Mossop.
The final try came from Galea as he shot through a gap and Forber tacked on the conversion.
It’s back to the Fibrus Community Stadium next week and a home game against Rochdale Hornets who earned a very creditable 20-20 draw at leaders Keighley.
