The county development team to face Northumberland in a two-day fixture this weekend is packed with players from the Cumbria League’s Premier Division.
Josh Stirling, a young Carlisle spinner who is currently playing for the senior side, will captain the side with nine others from the Cumbia League in the 12-strong squad which has been named.
Oliver Greenwood (Penrith) and Josh Wills (Netherfield) are the only ones who play their cricket in the Northern League.
Whitehaven’s rise up the Cumbria League’s Premier Division is reflected in the selection of their two young stars, batsman Kian Larmour and spinner Lewis Keeler.
Workington wicket-keeper Sam Bates, also currently playing with the senior side, has also been selected for the game at Penrith which is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
