An abandoned paddleboard prompted an emergency response at Crummock Water over the weekend.
Emergency services were called to the paddleboard yesterday, Sunday, July, 21, after it was found on the far side of the lake unattended.
It was initially called in by a passer-by concerned for the paddler’s safety who called 999 and asked the Coastguard for assistance.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team were joined by Cumbria Police, Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Cockermouth Rescue Team and Beep Doctors.
After rescue teams arrived at the scene – the paddleboarder had returned from a brief walk to continue their journey around the lake.
A coastguard spokesman said: “We thank the first informant for not delaying in raising their concerns.
“Whilst not a contributing factor today, we would like to take the opportunity to remind all users of kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards to label their equipment with a name and contact number to expedite searches like these.”
