Police are investigating reports of a man acting suspiciously in the area of Carlisle Road in Dalston at around 1.30am yesterday.
Officers have asked residents to check CCTV systems and Ring Doorbell cameras for any footage of suspicious activity between 12.30am and 2.30am.
Police said they were particularly keen to obtain footage of a mam wearing a two tone tracksuit, believed to be in the area at the time of the incident.
