After four straight Wearside League victories Windscale’s splendid run hit the buffers losing 4-1 at home to South Moor.
There was no indication that the Atoms were to be derailed as they took the lead in the third minute.
Rhys Singleton set up Lewis Jolly with an inch perfect pass to allow the home forward to get behind the Moor defence and send an angled shot beyond keeper Curtis Richardson.
South Moor restored parity in the 11th minute following an attack by the Atoms.
The threat was relieved by a long ball from defence which found the Windscale rearguard short of numbers. Conor Randall slipped the ball to the feet of Kevin Humble who slotted the first of his three goals beyond Atoms custodian Fin Stephenson.
It was proving to be a lack lustre first half display by Windscale. Humble completed his hat-trick in the 19th and 33rd minutes to provide South Moor with a comfortable 3-1 cushion at the break.
The Atoms were better in the second period with play much more even. Despite making several good scoring opportunities they were denied by Richardson between the sticks for the visitors who was proving to be a more than competent goalkeeper.
The only goal of the half, which hammered the final nail in the Atoms coffin, was driven home in the 75th minute.
Steven Walker conceded a penalty and Riley Smith fired the resultant spot kick beyond Stephenson.
It was a disappointing performance against a more than capable side who will probably be in the mix for honours at the end of the season.
Windscale have the opportunity to get this performance out of their system in their sixth League game of the season on Wednesday.
They entertain Bishop Auckland Reserves at the Falcon Complex, the game kicking off at 7.45pm.
