Whitehaven coach Kyle Amor has been able to name a squad of 17 for Sunday’s Championship home game against York City Knights.
That’s a significant step up from last week when Whitehaven went to Dewsbury with just 14 men and pulled off a superb win against the odds.
But Amor has warned his squad that last Sunday’s effort has been forgotten by everyone now.
“It’s about this week and for us it’s about getting points on the board against a side who are battling for a play-off spot.
“York have had a big turn around in fortunes over the last couple of months and we have been looking at some of the threats they create.
“It’s going to be a tough, physical encounter against a good York side and it’s obviously a boost that we will have 17 players,” he said.
Jake Carter, Edene Gebbie and Perry Singleton are added to the 14 who produced such an outstanding effort to win at Dewsbury.
Amor has also appealed to the “rugby league people in the town” to support the team who have given so much for the cause.
He said: “Even though some of them won’t be here at Whitehaven next season they are doing their utmost for the team and deserve as much support as possible.
“There is no doubt that Whitehaven must fulfil all our fixtures between now and the end of the season or the Rugby League would not issue a licence to the club for 2025. That would be the end of professional rugby league in the town.
“So I’m asking the rugby league people in Whitehaven, whatever their affiliation to the club, to come down on Sunday and back these players.”
Amor’s squad is: Sam Ackroyd, Ross Ainley, Jake Carter, Lucas Castle, Rio Corkill, Will Evans, Edene Gebbie, Lachlan Hanneghan, Ryan King, Owen McCarron, James Newton, Joey Romeo, Callum Shaw, Perry Singleton, Curtis Teare, Mac Walsh, Huw Worthington.
