Penrith manager Darren Edmondson needed a response from his side after their 8-1 meltdown in mid-week – and he got it.
The Bonny Blues bounced back with a 3-1 victory over a Northallerton side who have climbed the table this season after a disappointing 2023/24.
Penrith had started nervously, the aftermath of Tuesday’s mauling by Kendal, and it looked ominous when Northallerton took the lead through Joseph Dixon after 15 minutes.
That wasn’t what they needed but gradually they came more into the game and enjoyed their best spell of the half in the last 15 minutes.
As a result they got back on terms four minutes before the break through Connor Shields.
In the second-half Penrith looked stronger and fitter, encouraged by taking the lead on 50 minutes through Luke Hunter.
It could have been put to bed before Johnny Murray added a third for Penrith in the first minute of time added on.
Edmondson was delighted with the way his side had recovered to record the win, but disappointed that they left several goals out there on the pitch.
