Penrith AFC Ladies powered their way to the second qualifying round of the Adobe FA Women’s Cup with an emphatic 18-2 win over Carlisle United Ladies.
Carlisle were unable to contain the pace and power of a Penrith team high on confidence after four straight league victories prior to this FA Cup tie.
Manager Jamie Fitzwilliam said: “The ladies played very well on the day and we’re pleased to be in the next round. We need to remain grounded and continue to work hard in training and in matches.”
The Penrith goals were scored by Jodie English (4), Kayleigh Wharton (4), Ellie Gallacher (3), Shay Robinson (2), Abbie Forster (2), Emily Mason, Kerri Mallinson and Heather Fawkes.
Chelsea Norris scored the first Carlisle goal, which was probably the best of the 20 that were scored on the day. She beat two players and scored from 30 yards to make it 4-1.
United’s Charlotte Murray scored another long-range effort in the second half. Penrith also took the opportunity to give several youngsters valuable first team experience.
Young keeper Sophie Paton made her Ladies team debut while 16-year-old Ellie Gallacher, Maddy Ferguson and Ella Todd all featured.
Penrith will face a difficult challenge in the second qualifying round when they travel to higher league Wallsend BC Ladies on September 22.
This Sunday, Penrith hit the road as they face a tricky test at Radcliffe Borough Ladies.
