The lower level of Kendal’s Westmorland Shopping Centre car park will be closed with immediate effect after an issue was found with some of the concrete.
A routine annual inspection highlighted an issue with some concrete on the ramp between level 1 and 2 of the car park.
The lower level has been closed by Westmorland & Furness Council with immediate effect to allow specialist repairs to be carried out.
It is expected that this area of the car park could be closed for between eight and 10 weeks, it said.
The affected ramp and area of the car park has its own separate barrier close to the main entrance so the rest of the car park is unaffected and open as usual.
A spokesman for Westmorland and Furness Council, which operates the car park, said: “We recognise that the closure will cause some disruption to car park users, especially those who regularly park in the affected areas, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“However, only a small part of the car park is impacted and the rest of the car park is open as usual.
“We hope people understand that this closure and remedial work is required to ensure the safety of all car park users.’’
