The last game of the season tonight in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League brings together two sides who have dominated the final run-in.
Wath Brow A and Maryport are contesting the Top Four final at Ghiel Park, home of the Hornets, after a mini-series of games which have been enthralling and hard fought.
Maryport won the first one by a couple of points to take the League title to a decider the following week which the Brow one. It made history for them as the first A team to win the Cumberland League title.
Last week the sides met again in the Firpress Printers Cumberland Cup final, at Maryport, and once again it was a Wath Brow victory.
Earlier in the season Wath Brow had beaten Hensingham A to win the EB Lamb and Son Amateur Cup so they go into this last game with three pieces of silverware already in the trophy cabinet.
It would be a remarkable achievement for an A team to win all four trophies on offer to them and they will certainly go into tonight’s showdown on home turf as strong favourites.
Kick-off tonight is 6.45pm and a big crowd is expected to see whether the Brow can complete a clean sweep or whether Maryport can salvage a trophy which their efforts over the season have deserved.
Last night, Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh caught up with the two coaches Paul Farrell (Wath Brow) and Mark Foster (Maryport) after their respective training sessions for their thoughts ahead of the game. You can listen below:
