Whitehaven’s run of good results ended in the West Lancashire League when they went down 4-0 at leaders Tempest United.
It might have been a harsh reflection on how the West Cumbrians performed as they had started really well and were very much in the contest for half an hour.
But on 35 minutes the home side were awarded a penalty which was put away by Jordan Pendlebury. The Whitehaven players and management thought it was a rather harsh award.
It was still 1-0 at half-time but within 13 minutes of the re-start that had moved on to 3-0.
The busy Elliot Hailwood doubled the home lead on 51 minutes and then Sam Parkinson converted a second penalty, this time hardly contested by the west Cumbrians.
The points were already in the bag when Tempest scored their fourth goal through Aaron Thorpe in the 75th minute.
Whitehaven will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they entertain Coppull United who are bottom of the League, but only two points behind the west Cumbrians.
