Whitehaven have gone into the south of the county to recruit their latest player from the community game.
Rio McQuistan has joined Haven’s new-look squad from National Conference League side Millom.
The utility player has been a mainstay in the Woollybacks side for several recent seasons and has represented England Community Lions Under 19s in their European competition campaign in 2022.
In the 2024 campaign Rio scored four tries in 10 appearances for Millom in NCL Division Two on his return from playing Grade Rugby in Australia.
Haven head coach Anthony Murray, who has also played and coached the Millom club, said: “Rio is another local-based player from Millom who I have been watching over a period of time.
“He went out to Australia to gain some valuable experience and has also represented the England Community Lions.
“I’m really pleased he has decided to make the step into professional rugby with us at Haven.
“He is a back-row forward and runs hard so will add some good attacking threat on the edges and is defensively strong.”
