Workington Town will be unveiling one of the biggest change round in squads for some considerable time – if ever before – on Friday.
The Fibrus Community Stadium League One side are saying goodbye to 16 players who were involved in League One fixtures last season.
That leaves, on estimate, around seven players before the new faces are revealed at a special evening at the ground on Friday night.
Original estimates were for a dozen new recruits to be introduced, but there’s every likelihood of that being more as new coach Jonty Gorley looks to get started for pre-season training before Christmas.
Gorley will be fielding questions at the event, which is free to fans, and is filling up fast.
Most of the departures are already known with Carl Forber, retired and joining the coaching team, and Jason Mossop also hanging up his boots.
Harry Hadfield, Brad Brennan, Ethan Bickerdike, Connor Saunders, Kian McPherson, Jordan Thomson and Jordan Burns have already been announced as signing for neighbours Whitehaven.
Billy Southward is also on the departure list after doing well when introduced towards the end of last season, before suffering a recurrence of an old knee injury.
Also said to be leaving Town are Liam McNicholas, Tyler Walton, Chris Taylor, Tommy Brierley, Blain Marwood and Jake Lightowler.
Brierley has signed for home town club Dewsbury Rams so is likely to be back at the Fibrus Community Stadium during 2025.
But with some exciting signings lined-up for revealing on Friday night Town fans are not expected to be disappointed too long over the record number of departures.
