Workington have it all to do again in the NPL Premier Division tomorrow – an away fixture against a team below them in the table.
So far they’ve lost at Gainsborough Trinity and drawn at FC United, and complete a quick treble on the road at Mickleover.
The Derbyshire side, currently lying fourth bottom, are two points behind the Reds from the same number of games. They have won two, drawn one and lost five of their games at home.
Reds boss Mark Fell was mightily encouraged after last week’s 2-2 draw at FC United when two-goal Steven Rigg (12 for the season) levelled with an 89th minute penalty.
Fell says that nothing has changed much on the availability front as a stack of players will still be unavailable for this one.
In the Northern League game of the day is the Cumbrian derby in which Carlisle City entertain Kendal Town, with both sides needing to get back to winnings ways.
City have reserved their best performances for the knock-out competitions, making good progress in the FA Vase and the Fred Conway County Cup. But they need to reverse a worrying slide down the table.
Manager Dan Kirkup said: “We have a full strength team but the game is doubtful because of the weather – which would be typical.”
The game is subject to a morning inspection, possibly later than on most occasions because of the relatively short distance Kendal have to travel.
Kendal have slipped-out of the play-off places and were disappointed to lose 1-0 at home to one of their rivals Crook Town last week.
Manager Jimmy Marshall will also be well aware that in the game at Parkside earlier in the season, Carlisle City came out on top 2-1.
Penrith are on the road to Newcastle Benfield but like most games in the Northern League tomorrow it will be the subject of a pitch inspection before Darren Edmondson and his men travel.
There was a lot for Edmondson to feel pleased about last week in his side‘s performance against North Shields, apart from the 2-0 result, but as is so often the case much will depend on his available players for the trip to Newcastle.
In the North West Counties Division One North a goal in added time from Jamie Hodgson gave Holker Old Boys a valuable 1-1 draw at Bacup Borough.
But the Furness side slipped to fourth in the table and weather permitting they will be looking to pick-up the winning thread again tomorrow at home to mid-table Darwen.
The two west Cumbrian sides in the West Lancashire League’s Premier Division – Cleator Moor Celtic and Whitehaven – could both do with league points but both have Cup matches tomorrow.
Celtic go to Fulwood Amateurs while Whitehaven are on the road to Turton, both for Richardson Cup-ties.
In the Wearside League Windscale are without a fixture.
