A festive event planned for Carlisle this weekend has been postponed.

The Devonshire Street party was due to take place on Sunday, November 23, but Storm Bert is forecast to tear through the county this weekend.

As high winds are expected, the event will not go ahead as planned, Cumberland Council said.

The Met Office has weather warnings in place for tomorrow and Sunday. The authority added that agencies were working together to prepare for the effects of the storm.

A Cumberland Council spokesman said: “Our priority is the safety of those taking part and attending the event. We hope to reschedule the event to another date and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The Carlisle Teenage Market will go ahead as planned inside The Lanes Shopping Centre tomorrow, Saturday November 23.

No new date for the Devonshire Street event has been announced.

The Devonshire Street Christmas party was the main festive focus for Carlisle as work continues on the multi-million-pound revamp of the city centre.
