Phil Denvir in dominant form for Rack Shack

Round six of the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League started with a closely contested battle between two Division Two sides.

Whitehaven’s Rack Shack defeated Workington Veterans Club B in a nail-biting 3-2 contest.

It sparked a series of hard-fought 3-2 score-lines throughout the week’s fixtures.

Phil Denvir produced a dominant display for Rack Shack in frame one, outclassing Luke Richardson with a 73-6 victory to give the home side an early 1-0 lead.

Vets B struck straight back, however, as Jordan Ferguson, demonstrating focus and finesse, edged out Lee Dougherty 59-49 to level the match at 1-1.

Vets B’s Adam Hodgson gave the visitors the advantage with a composed 63-28 win over Adam Morilla in frame three, putting his side 2-1 up in the process.

Chris McKelvey ensured Rack Shack remained in the game by delivering a polished performance in frame four to defeat Simon Tootle 36-34.

At 2-2, Neil Docherty held his nerve, showcasing his tactical awareness to outplay Wayne Sinclair 53-46, securing a hard-fought 3-2 deciding frame victory for Rack Shack.

The win sees Rack Shack move up to third place in Division 2 with 10 points, while Vets Club B remain in fifth place on eight points.

Next up, Division One’s Workington Veterans Club A battled it out against Division Two’s Workington Conservative Club and in a hard fought contest the Vets A side ran out 3-2 winners.

Mark Tunstall set the tone for Vets A with a commanding performance, crafting a superb break of 30 to dismantle Brian Kendall 87-17, putting the home side 1-0 up.

In frame two, Workington Cons’ Alan Moore responded emphatically, delivering a near-flawless performance. With a break of 33, he levelled the match with a 93-23 win.

Vets A captain Kevin Basnett was at his clinical best, producing a composed break of 40 to defeat Julian Plaza 71-31, regaining the lead for his side at 2-1.

A disjointed start to frame four quickly changed as Mark Tatton shut down Dave Holland in a 43-7 victory to put the Vets A in an unassailable 3-1 lead.

In the final frame of the match, Ryan Barker softened the blow for Workington Cons, showcasing resilience and precision to edge out Paul Smith 50-39 for a finishing 3-2 scoreline.

The Vets A outfit stay in fourth place in Division One on 12 points. Workington Cons, despite the loss, remain in second place in Division Two with 15 points.

In the next fixture, Workington’s Station Road Club travelled the short distance to Workington Golf Club A in an all-Division One fixture, and with a 3-2 victory a brilliant away win was recorded.

Station Road’s Kevin Kirkham was in imperious form in frame one, dismantling current league singles champion Ryan Ismay 63-13 with a confident and precise display.

Phil Sorfleet dragged the Golf Club side straight back into the match in frame two with a 57-32 victory over Station Road’s Tom Thompson.

Station Road’s John Teasdale fought back in the next, delivering a solid performance to overcome Simon Fraser 51-13, putting his side 2-1 up.

In frame four, Darren Lawson displayed his usual consistency, controlling the frame from start to finish to defeat Brian Walker 50-14, sealing the victory for Station Road at 3-1.

Mark Cowan salvaged some pride for Workington Golf Club A in the fifth and final frame of the match, edging out Mark Walker 52-42 on the very last ball to reduce the deficit to 3-2.

The win sees Station Road move up to second place in Division One on 15 points. Workington Golf Club remain in third place with 14 points.

Finally, Workington’s United Club A continued their unbeaten streak with a hard-fought 3-2 away victory over Maryport Social.

United A’s Dave Chapman produced a composed performance in frame one, defeating Ben Scott 61-24 to put the visitors ahead.

Andrew Sharp fought back for Maryport Social in the next, delivering a confident display to defeat Mark Suitor 67-21, levelling the match at 1-1.

Peter O’Hagan was outstanding for United A in the third, producing breaks of 45 and 36 to dominate Greg Todd 89-13, regaining the lead for the visitors.

In frame four, Maryport Social’s Andrew Scott kept the match alive with a resilient 40-24 victory over Clive Lister, nicely setting up a final-frame decider.

United A captain Andrew Mitchelhill proved his class in the last frame of the match, defeating Gary Miller 57-11 with a commanding performance, sealing a crucial 3-2 win for United Club A.
