Plans for a new mural by an internationally renowned street artist are being considered for a Carlisle arcade.
Artwork for Lowther Arcade, off Lowther Street, would be added to an internal wall by Blank Wall Assassins, working with Woskerski.
The London-based mural artist has been painting since 1997 and his website says his style is a mixture of street art and fine art with graffiti influences.
Cumberland Council is behind the proposal and said it would be part of the Carlisle Southern Gateway project, and paid for by Government Town Deal funding.
It added: “The overall vision is to create a distinctive, coherent, and inclusive hub. This initiative aims to enhance the perception of Carlisle, increase social value, and ultimately boost economic performance by attracting more residents and visitors.
“The artwork we are proposing is part of a wider project to make the city centre a more vibrant and lively destination and to encourage increasing footfall. As a council one of our values is to work collaboratively and we are always looking for new methods of engaging new audiences.
“The artist will work closely with the project team and the building owner to develop a proposal that compliments the area. The design will be signed of by both the North place Project team, North Area Place Programme Board and The Lowther Arcade building owner.”
If it gets the go-ahead, it will take 10 to 14 days to complete and work would start at the end of January.
Lowther Arcade is a Grade II-listed building which was dated 1904 for the Carlisle Old Brewery Company by Henry Higginson of Carlisle.
The interior wall which has been selected for the mural is not part of the listed elements of the Lowther Arcade and is currently painted white.
