Hardy swimmers took to the sea in Whitehaven on New Year’s Eve to take part in the 26th Golden Sands Dip.
Organised by the Golden Sands Polar Bear Club, swimmers gathered at Whitehaven Harbour for a wild and windy dip to say farewell to 2024.
Those who took part were raising funds for their own choice of charity, while Workington RNLI fundraisers held a collection.
Organisers John O’Brien and Hazel Block thanked everyone who took part, the Harbour Commissioners for permission and free parking, Cumberland Council for free parking at the Beacon and Workington RNLI and Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team for helping keep everyone safe.
Local entrepreneur Luke Johnston set the dip off and chose the winner of the fancy dress competition and Tina Spedding led warm-ups for the hardy dippers prior to the main event.
