Penrith AFC booked themselves a semi-final place in the Fred Conway Cumberland Cup on Saturday after a 3-1 victory against Unisun Athletic from the Cumberland County League, but they were made to work hard for it by Carlisle-based Unisun.
In a match heavily influenced by strong winds at the Sheepmount, Unisun grabbed an early lead thanks to a header from Ellis Dickinson in the second minute.
Penrith controlled the first half and equalised on the 32nd minute through a Connor Hammell penalty.
The Visitors then doubled their lead four minutes later thanks to Murray Jones finding the bottom corner from close range.
Unisun Athletic had more of the ball in the second half and were determined to find a equaliser with Shane Dorward coming the closest after seeing his shot go over the bar after a cross from Kian Maker in the 50th minute.
With a few minutes remaining, Jones once again found the back of the net with a goal that was a carbon copy of the first he scored and it sealed victory for Penrith and puts them into the last four.
Despite defeat, Unisun Athletic can hold their heads high after a good performance against their Northern League rivals in front of a decent crowd at the Sheepmount.
