A section of the A595 in South Cumbria is now closed for the weekend as work continues on a £23 million improvement scheme.
The A595 at Grizebeck village will remain closed until 5pm tomorrow, Sunday February 2.
Westmorland and Furness Council is leading on the scheme, which aims to significantly improve congestion between Chapels and Grizebeck.
It said the essential road closure will see the construction of junctions by Story Contracting connecting a new temporary route with the existing A595.
The new temporary road, which will serve vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians for six months while a new overpass is built to improve local access to Grizebeck village.
The temporary route is due to open in mid-February.
Emergency service vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists will still have access throughout the closure this weekend.
For other road users, a signed diversion is in place via the A5092, A590, and A595 through Greenodd, Ulverston, and Askam in Furness.

The road will also be closed next weekend, February 8 and 9, for further work on the temporary road.
Two weekend closures for the A595 in South Cumbria are planned for next month as work continues on the £23 million Grizebeck improvement scheme.
The Grizebeck scheme, which began in August 2024, has already achieved significant progress, the council said.
To ease congestion throughout construction, a HGV restriction was implemented through Grizebeck village on Monday January 13 in preparation for the start of main earthworks for spring 2025.
The temporary restriction on vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, introduced by Story Contracting, is designed to reduce congestion for road users.
Drivers of vehicles over 7.5 tonnes are urged to follow the signed diversion.
