A Lake District triathlon has been voted best of the best by a top sports event reviewing platform.

Organisers and partners of the Lakesman Triathlon are celebrating its win in The Racecheck Awards – which honours sports events based solely on feedback from participants.

It is considered one of the most authentic and respected recognitions in the sport events industry. Events do not pay to be considered, and winners are decided on verified athlete reviews.

This year, 205 events across 14 countries qualified for recognition, highlighting the Lakesman Triathlon’s achievement on the global stage.

Lakesman, held in Keswick, has been a key fixture in the triathlon calendar since its inception in 2016.

The event is a collaborative effort between Cumberland Council, Better, and local family-run business Lakesman Events Ltd.

The event consists of a 1.2 mile swim in Derwentwater, a 56-mile bike ride through West Cumbria, and a multi-lap half-marathon around Keswick.

It attracts 1,000 athletes annually from across the UK and beyond and it is hoped its latest accolade will further boost its global appeal.

Marie Whitehead, event director added: “We started this event in 2016 with the ethos of putting our athletes first, and this recognition is testament to that initial ambition.

“We are lucky to be able to stage a backdrop in the most beautiful location, with fabulous partners and local sponsors who support us every year.

“Our core team and volunteers share our passion for making this race the best possible experience it can be for everyone involved.

“We are delighted to receive this award, and this together with being selected to be host for the British and English championships, gives us a fabulous platform to showcase Cumberland as a perfect place to hold world class events.”

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said: “The Lakesman Triathlon has firmly established itself as one of the most popular endurance races in the UK and beyond, attracting athletes from all over the world to experience the stunning backdrop of Cumbria.

“Being voted the world’s best triathlon by Racecheck is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the dedication of the organisers, volunteers, and the entire community who make this event so special.

“I have no doubt it will continue to grow, inspiring even more participants”.

Martin Horne, partnership manager for GLL, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to see The Lakesman voted Best of the Best triathlon.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication, passion, and hard work of everyone involved – from the incredible athletes and their supporters to the event organisers and their core team, the many volunteers, and the wider Keswick community, which makes this race so special.

“At GLL, we are proud to be a partner in an event that embodies excellence.”

Lakesman 2025 is back on June 15 and is set to attract an even greater number of competitors eager to experience the top-rated triathlon.

It is also set to host the British Championships and English Championships in June 2025.
