
The last two remaining ties in the Fred Conway Cumberland Cup quarter final took place on Saturday with all four clubs wanting to join Carlisle City and Penrith AFC in the semi final.
Cumberland County League Premier outfit Keswick had a tough test as they welcomed Cleator Moor Celtic from the West Lancashire League Premier to Fitz Park.
On this occasion it was the higher league Cleator Moor who won the tie 2-0 after Adam Smith scored both goals.
In the other tie, the last remaining Westmorland League club Wetheriggs United who play their football in Division One host Aspatria from the Cumberland County League Premier. Logan Dixon, Andrew Trestianu and Richard Hudson scored for Aspatria who are now the lowest ranked side remaining in the tournament.
Elsewhere, Saturday was once again a action packed day in the Cumberland County League with plenty of goals.
Division One title rivals Workington Juniors and Mirehouse met once again but this time in the Benevolent Cup semi final.
Although Workington are 11 points clear of second place Mirehouse in the league, this fixture however was a tighter affair with the game ending 1–1. Marc Messenger netted for Workington with Nicky McAllister grabbing the goal for Mirehouse. The tie went to penalties with Workington booking their place in the final after winning 5-4 on spot kicks.
In the Premier Division, Unisun Athletic who started the day top of the table suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wigton Harriers. Rich O’Keefe and Adam Gordon got the goals for Wigton to also keep themselves outside title contenders. Ellis Dickinson scored for Unisun.
With Unisun slipping up, it was up to Cockermouth to take advantage and they took that opportunity with both hands with a 5-0 victory against Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves. Goals from Mike Graham, Milo Cooke, Conor Cooke, Rory Scales and an own goal now sees Cockermouth sit top of the Premier Division.
In Division One, Kyle Adlard and Lewis Manchester goals helped Dearham United to a 2-1 victory against Silloth with Jackson Slack getting their goal.
Whitehaven AFC Reserves and Unisun Athletic Youth Development were involved in a 1-1 draw, Carl Denver scored for Whitehaven and Charlie Thomson found the back of the net for Unisun.
Windscale Reserves also got themselves a 1-1 draw when they met Cockermouth Reserves with their goal coming from Kieran Lawson. Oscar Pickering was Cockermouth’s goal scorer.
Stephen Cameron Moir and Attlee-Jack Skillen both netted for Maryport Athletic to give them a 2-0 victory against Whitehaven Miners Social in the group stage of the Ken Glover Memorial Cup.
