
More arrests have been made as police continue to target dangerous drivers on Cumbria’s roads.
Operation Spotlight is a month-long campaign to highlight the Fatal Four – the most dangerous behaviours on the road.
They are speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs.
Cumbria police released an update today, Monday July 7.
Police were called at around 12.40pm on Sunday after a report that a car was being driven erratically on the M6 at Burton-in Kendal.
Officers traced the car to Carlisle and stopped the vehicle at around 1.25pm and the driver – a 35-year-old man from the Glasgow area – was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
He was released under investigation to allow time for further tests to be carried out.
On Sunday at around 6pm, someone reported a suspected drink-driver in Carlisle.
Officers stopped a van at around 6.10pm and the driver – a 21-year-old of no fixed address – was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
He was released under investigation to allow time for further tests to be carried out.
Cumbria police said their officers also engaged with a man who had been seen driving a vehicle heading towards Cumwhinton on Sunday at around 9am.
The driver – a 37-year-old man from Scotland – failed a drugs wipe and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
He was released under investigation to allow time for further tests to be carried out.
