Workington Reds have gone back to Holker Old Boys to recruit the latest member of their squad for the 2025/26 season.
Midfielder Luke Ellis joins former team-mates Will McGladdery and Tom Dawson, who had signed for the Reds earlier.
It means that all of last season’s Holker trophy winners have now moved on with McGladdery (Players’ Player); Dawson (top goalscorer) and Ellis (Young player), joined by Joe Amison (Player of the Year) who has signed for Lancaster City.
In announcing the signing of Ellis on their social media sites Reds say: “A young, talented, and hungry midfield player, Luke brings energy, determination, and quality to the squad.
“Strong, tenacious, and technically gifted, he arrives at Borough Park with a full season of men’s football behind him and ready to make his mark in red.”
Reds fans will get the opportunity to see Darren Edmondson’s squad in action this afternoon when they host one of Scotland’s newest clubs Caledonian Braves who finished third in last season’s Lowland League when Gretna were fourth bottom.
They started their pre-season build-up in mid-week with a 5-0 home win over Shotts Bon Accord.
Interestingly they also had a fixture at Morpeth Town last night, which they lost 3-1, so just how the Braves will use their squad over the two games remains to be seen. But with 25 in the squad list supplied to Reds that will be no problem!
