Former Carlisle and Barrow goalkeeper Paul Farman has signed for the Championship club Swansea City.
But he’s not guaranteed a start as his signing adds to Swansea’s goalkeeping options, providing competition for Lawrence Vigouroux and Andy Fisher.
He has put pen to paper on a one-year deal and will wear the number 29 shirt for the Swans.
He is available for this afternoon’s Championship opener at Middlesbrough.
The 35-year-old Farman moves to Wales after a career which has seen him make over 500 league appearances at all levels of the game.
He spent four years at Barrow and figured in over 160 League and Cup games for the Bluebirds.
Previously he had played 42 times for Carlisle United.
The North Shields-born keeper was on the academy books at Newcastle United, and since then has had spells with Blyth Spartans, Washington, Gateshead, Lincoln City, Boston United and Stevenage before the two Cumbrian clubs.
He was a National League winner with Lincoln in 2017 and helped them reach the EFL Trophy final the following season.
He played more games for Lincoln – 201 – than for any other of his clubs.
“Paul will provide valuable competition for Lawrence Vigouroux and Andy Fisher in our goalkeeping unit under Martyn Margetson, and we are pleased to have him onboard as we start the new season,” said head coach Alan Sheehan.
Director of football Richard Montague, said: “We have been aware of the need to add an additional senior goalkeeper to the squad, and Paul brings considerable experience and will provide us with greater depth in that area of the pitch.”
Adam Worth, Swansea City’s global head of recruitment and analytics, added: “We realised there would be a need to ensure we added depth in the goalkeeper position for the coming season, and Paul’s considerable experience over a long professional career make him a good fit for our requirements.”
