A North Cumbrian man has heard that all options, including a jail term, will be open to a sentencing judge after he admitted stealing more than £36,000 from his parents.
Robin Barton, 46, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this morning.
During a short hearing in front of Judge Michael Fanning, Barton pleaded guilty to one offence. This relates to the theft of money — said by the prosecution to be £36,900 — from his mother and father between 14 and 17 May last year.
Barton’s case was adjourned by the judge, who requested the preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report.
This document will be completed over the coming weeks after an interview with the defendant by a probation officer, who will recommend alternative sentences to a term of immediate custody.
Barton, of The Nook, Aikton, near Wigton, is due to receive his punishment at the crown court on 8th October, and remains on unconditional bail in the meantime.
Judge Fanning confirmed to him that all sentencing options, including a prison sentence, were open at this stage.
