Kendal Town suffered only their second Northern League defeat of the season last night.
A goal deep into added time gave Horden Colliery Welfare a 1-0 win at Parkside Road.
The Mintcakes had started the match third in the table and the defeat means that Horden leap-frogged them and Matt Flynn’s men now lie fourth.
Bobby McNeaney scored the match-winner in the 95th minute.
Manager Flynn said: “We were nowhere near the standards we have set ourselves in the first half and although it was better in the second half we couldn’t find a way.
“It’s always hard to lose a game so late on but it was down to a lack of basic defending.
“But Horden are a good, physical side typical in many ways of what we come up against in the north east.
“A draw might have been a fair result but it was only our second defeat since the first game of the season.
“We go again on Saturday with an FA Cup-tie against Dunston and we are all looking forward to that.”
Flynn gave a debut to left back Charlie Cox who has joined on loan from Lancaster City.
Cox progressed through Blackpool’s academy, and enjoyed successful loan spells at Squires Gate and Lancaster last season – before joining Jimmy Marshall’s side permanently this summer.
Flynn said: “I’m very happy that Charlie has come to us and grateful Lancaster have let it happen. Charlie is a young and exciting player who fits in with my ethos of hard work. He will give the wide areas competition,
I thought he did ok on his first appearance especially being new to our set-up.”
Meanwhile both the other Cumbrian sides in Northern League Division One face away trips tonight.
Carlisle City go to Easington Colliery while Penrith are on the road to North Shields.
City got back to winning ways last Friday after two defeats when they beat West Allotment Celtic 3-1 at Gillford Park.
Dan Kirkup’s men lie seventh in the table with Easington down in17th. But the Colliery side have only played four games, winning two and losing two.
Penrith will be going into the game at North Shields on the back of a 3-1 defeat on Sunday in the FA Vase at Campion.
Jim Nichols’ men lie 13th in the table, three points and three places behind North Shields but with a game in hand.
