A 62-year-old man has been arrested after the bomb squad were called to a South Cumbrian home.
Cumbria Police were called out at 11.07am, on Tuesday August 26, by Ministry of Defence Police to a report of suspected ordnances that appeared to be grenades, found in a Newton-in-Furness home.
A 62-year-old man was arrested under placing an article with the intention of making another person believe that it was likely to explode or ignite and thereby cause personal injury or damage to property.
He has since been released on police bail.
The incident resulted in a multi-agency response involving police, North West Ambulance Service, Cumbria Fire and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.
The EOD were called from Catterick to the scene to assess the device and a 100 metre cordon was put in place and 19 nearby homes were evacuated
Following examination by EOD specialists, the ordnances were found to be inert – or chemically inactive.
The cordon was lifted at around 5.30pm and people were then allowed back in their homes.
Cumbria Police said it would like to thank the residents of Newton-in-Furness who were impacted by the evacuation yesterday for their understanding and patience, as well as the other agencies who attended in support of the multi-agency response to the incident.
