Furness are within three points of regaining the Cumbria League’s Premier Division title.
A rain-off would be good enough even if main rivals Keswick beat Cockermouth in the final round of fixtures.
The only was they can miss out is if they lose at Cleator without picking up two points, and Keswick pip them by beating Cockermouth who start the day in third place but 12 points behind Furness.
Furness will be hot favourites to complete the job against a Cleator side who have found it tough these past few years.
One of the great names in local cricket circles – former league champions and National Village champions at Lord’s – the current crop have not been able to reach the same levels.
It would be one of the shocks of the season if Furness were to slip up tomorrow but Keswick will be wishing Cleator all the best.
However Keswick still have to win their final game before finding out how things played out at the JD Campbell Memorial Ground.
There’s a keen rivalry between Keswick and Cockermouth so tomorrow’s clash at Fitz Park won’t be a gimmee.
The other games on the final day of the season are: Dalton v Workington; Whitehaven v Egremont; Wigton v Millom.
