Carlisle City produced an excellent performance last night before losing 3-2 to a late goal by Northern League Division One leaders Whitley Bay.
Manager Dan Kirkup described it as a great game of football for the neutral, and one they could have won.
City were 1-0 ahead, 2-1 behind and levelled after 80 minutes before being beaten in the second minute of added time.
Kirkup felt that his side deserved something out of the game and praised all his players for their performances on the night.
Perhaps they could have done better on the winning goal, being slow to clear and paying the price.
Unbeaten Whitley Bay were shocked when Jordan Irving put City ahead after 14 minutes.
An unfortunate own goal by veteran Kyle May on 22 minutes put the Bay level.
The 42-year-old has recently joined the line-up at City and has had two impressive performances.
It stayed 1-1 until the 71st minute when Layton Campbell put the leaders in front.
City bounced back with an equaliser from Sam Smith 10 minutes from time.
But in the 92nd minute Whitley Bay clinched the points with their third goal by Callum Larmouth.
