Land in Whitehaven which had stood empty for more than a decade has been given new life after the completion of 40 new affordable homes.

The new homes in Woodhouse have been built to meet local demand, with a mixture of two- and three-bedroom bungalows and two-bedroom homes.

Housing association Home Group, which delivered the new homes, already owns a number of homes on the same estate.

The homes have also been built with solar panels and electric charging points, to help reduce customer bills and futureproof them for years to come.

People have already started to move into the new homes.

Kerry Dryden, senior development and delivery manager at Home Group, said: “Our work in Woodhouse has been an exciting project for a number of years, which was carefully designed to bring long-vacant land back into use in a way which benefits our local community.

“It is brilliant to see customers moving into the new homes.

“Delivering affordable housing here in Whitehaven, and across Cumbria, is not just about the volume we can build, but making sure they meet the needs of local people.”
