Veteran Leicestershire seamer Chris Wright, who played for Cumbria in 2023, is to hang up his boots at the end of the season.
Wright, 40, has been in the county game for 22 years with the last seven of those seasons with the Foxes.
Last week he helped them clinch a return to the First Division of the County Championship for the first time since 2023.
That was actually a year before Wright started his own professional career at Middlesex.
He subsequently played for Essex and then Warwickshire, where he was a member of the Bears’ 2012 title win.
He joined Leicestershire at the end of the 2018 campaign and ahead of their last two Division Two games is just one wicket short of 800 in his career across all formats, with 597 of those taken in first-class cricket.
Wright played three times in the NCA Trophy two years ago for Cumbria. He took six wickets (avge 15.00) and scored 42 runs with a top knock of 31.
Speaking to the Leicestershire website Wright said: “When I moved to Leicestershire, my goal was clear — to help the club return to first division cricket.
“Now that has finally been achieved, and having celebrated my 40th birthday, it feels like the perfect time to announce my retirement.
“I want to end on a high and help the boys go up as champions before giving back to the game I love and helping the next generation of players achieve their own ambitions.”
Leicestershire are currently hosting Kent and end their campaign away to Northamptonshire next week, with a win in either game virtually certain to secure the title.
