Workington Comets and the Cartmell family have announced the fourth and final team to contest Jay’s memorial meeting on September 20.
The meeting at the GT Tyres Arena, Northside starting at 3pm will feature all the Comets riders across the four teams.
It is a tribute to Jay, who died during an incident in Warcop last October.
Jay, of Frizington, was a speedway fan, and the event will feature a four-team tournament-style meeting, bringing riders, fans, family, and friends together.
All four teams are named after figures from Jay’s favourite game Fortnite.
Blaze Bandits , the Midas Meteors and Ragnaroks’ Racers will be joined by Deadfire’s Demons.
Deadfire’s Demons will feature:
- Jye Etheridge admits himself that his winter move to the Comets has “brought him back to life”. He has been fantastic – but now he goes up against his 2025 team mates. Sponsored by Team TK
- 2023 Comet Luke Harrison is another young promising rider whose fantastic improvement for Scunthorpe this season, earned him a mid-season rising star place with Kings Lynn in the Premiership. Sponsored by JD Autos
- Fan favourite and our hard-charging reserve Vinnie Foord partners his fellow 2025 Comet Jye and will be looking for a good performance ahead of his chance at the British U19 title in Workington a week later. Sponsored by Baz & Jude Collins
- British Speedway and Comets legend Adam Roynon has parked the mic to rev up the bike once more. Usually firing on all cylinders in the BSN commentary box, he’s making a pit stop in Workington for one night only. He himself says it might be his last! Sponsored by: Les & Michelle Cartmell
- Reserve – 2023 Comet and Fan favourite Elliot Kelly is back. He picked up a National League place with Middlesbrough Tigers mid-season and one thing is for sure he will never give up. Sponsored by Les & Michelle Cartmell
A Comets spokesman said: “We and the Cartmell family would like to thank all the sponsors whose support has made this special meeting possible and with all the team announced, we are now looking forward to the special meeting for Jay on September 20.”
