Two people were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in a police operation targeting road safety in Carlisle.
Officers operated a vehicle checkpoint on the city’s Warwick Road yesterday, Tuesday September 16, as part of Operation Colossus, a 15-week crackdown on anti-social driving across Cumbria.
The operation was launched after concerns were raised by communities.
Yesterday, officers stopped 164 vehicles and as well as the arrests, action was taken for people driving without a licence and driving without insurance.
Ten traffic offence reports were issued for offences including driving without a seatbelt, tyre issues, excess speed and driving without due care.
Officers are also working to trace a motorbike seen in the area without a number plate which ignored a red light.
Inspector Andy Leather, of Carlisle Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are continuing to join forces with our colleagues in operational support to target anti-social driving and road traffic offences.
“These are issues that have been raised to us by the community as important to them.
“We continue to encourage anyone with concerns about anti-social driving or someone driving dangerously on our roads to report it.”
