A South Cumbrian family have raised thousands of pounds to help other grieving parents.
Chelsea Turrell and her family, of Kendal, lost Romeo Mackenzie Horn, a full-term stillborn baby, on Easter Monday.
He was born at Furness General Hospital in Barrow and the hospital had an Abi cooling cot, which allows parents to spend more time with their deceased baby than would otherwise be possible. The cold cot helps parents to bond with their baby and helps the grieving process.
Just a few months after his birth, the family began raising funds so the hospital could have a second cooling cot in Romeo’s memory.
The refrigerated cots are produced by charity Abigail’s Footsteps with the Bond Group.
Chelsea and her family have just ordered a second cot for the Co-operative Funeral Care branch in Kendal.
The family is now working towards raising money for a third cooling cot for the county – wherever it is needed.
They have raised over £7,000 so far.
In England, around one in 250 births is a stillbirth. Abigail’s also provides support for bereaved families and offers bereavement training for midwives and other medical professionals.
