Workington’s first win at Borough Park is still proving elusive after another home draw.
A slow burner, the 1-1 stalemate with Prescot Cables could have provided them with the overdue win as they created more opportunities than their visitors
In the end, though, it needed an added time save from Alex Mitchell when the Cables had the last chance of the game to win it.
Substitute Finlay Cross-Adair was put clear by a quick, effective counter attack but home keeper did well to save with his legs.
Just before then Workington’s outstanding defender Jordan Little almost won it with a header which was cleared off the line.
After a slow start by both sides, Reds went close on three occasions in the first-half with shots just off target.
Skipper Dav Symington saw one of his blockbusters from 30 yards flash just wide.
The hard-working Luke Ellis thundered one at goal from just outside the box but it fizzed narrowly over the bar.
Then good footwork from Sharif Deans created a shooting chance and his effort was inches wide of the far post.
The breakthrough came on 40 minutes when Deans provided the pass that put Symington in on goal.

As keeper Calvin Care came out to meet him the Reds captain slipped the ball wide and raced after it before drilling home from an angle.
Reds should have seen it through to the break but two minutes into added time Prescot drew level.
New signing Oliver Southern did well inside the home penalty area to slip past two defenders and his low ball into a crowded six yard box was turned home by Ben Elliott.
The second half, like the first, took a little time to warm up and Little was to the fore for Reds with some great defending when James Steele’s good work and crossing from the left posed problems.
Steven Rigg almost found a way through the Prescot defence, and Josh Galloway brought the best out of Hare with a fierce shot on the run which the keeper did well to turn over the bar.
The game was watched by Greg McCarragher, the former Workington midfielder who has re-signed for the Cumbrian club after a season in the Lowland League with Gretna.
Manager Darren Edmondson hopes international clearance will be received in time for McCarragher to be involved next Saturday at Ilkeston.
You can hear McCarragher talking about his return to Borough Park in an after-match interview with Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh below:
