Workington Reds’ weekend starts tonight with a game at Borough Park.
It’s the FA Youth Cup tie with Spennymoor Town which was postponed last Friday because of a saturated pitch.
There’s every incentive for both teams as the winners will be at home to Hartlepool United in the next round.
Reds had a big win over Penrith to get through to this stage and have one or two promising youngsters in their line-up. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
Then it will be over to the first team who travel to Ilkeston tomorrow for an NPL Premier Division game.
Reds are currently in the final relegation place of third bottom.
Only three clubs are likely to go down this season as Widnes pulled out of the league before a ball was kicked.
Ilkeston are four places and six points better off than the Reds, but have played a game more.
Darren Edmondson’s men go into the game on the back of a 1-1 home draw with Prescot Cables last week.
It was confirmed then that Greg McCarragher had re-signed for the Reds, but international clearance had to be obtained following his release from Gretna.
That has been received but McCarragher won’t be able to play at Ilkeston as he still has to serve a one match suspension for being sent off in Scotland during his Lowland League time with Gretna.
He has been training with the Reds and will be available for next Saturday’s FA Trophy tie with FC United of Manchester.
Edmondson has had to do without the services of Cieran Casson, Hayden Atkinson and Kai Nugent for the last three games, all with injuries, and he is not too hopeful of any being ready to take on Ilkeston.
