This October, Hill Top invites you to experience Beatrix Potter’s world in a whole new light.
On Saturday October 18, local storyteller Jessie McMeekin will lead two magical evening walks through the village, garden and orchard of Hill Top, the beloved farmhouse retreat of Beatrix Potter.
As twilight falls, the grounds will be softly illuminated with white lights, creating a fairy tale setting for a new story inspired by the landscape and characters Beatrix brought to life.
Jessie’s storytelling blends the real-life charm of Hill Top with the imaginative spirit of Beatrix’s animal tales.
You’ll explore the very places that sparked her creativity – from the gates and the garden paths to the vegetable patch – while hearing a tale crafted especially for this event.

Wander through the softly lit orchard and let your imagination roam where Beatrix once found hers.
Then go in out of the autumn air, to Hill Top House and listen to one of Beatrix’s tales being read in the hall.
“This is a chance to see Hill Top as no one ever has before,” said Laura Lee, general manager, “and to experience the magic of storytelling in the very landscape that inspired one of Britain’s most cherished authors.”
Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Beatrix Potter or simply looking for a unique autumn evening out, Stories in Starlight promises an unforgettable experience where nature, history, and storytelling meet under the stars.
