Carlisle United reach FA Youth Cup third round

Carlisle United reached the third round of the FA Youth Cup with a 5-0 win at Morecambe.

They will travel to either Newcastle Benfield or Gateshead on a date to be confirmed in the week beginning October 13.

A fast start laid the foundation for a commanding first half display which saw them go in at half time with a 3-0 lead.

Seb Mason put the young Blues ahead on 13 minutes when he turned smartly at the near post to fire home a corner from Simon Rigby.

The lead was doubled on 21 minutes when Reuben Towers showed good strength to create an opening for himself and the finish was perfect.

Two minutes later Mason grabbed his second with a fine strike into the top corner from the edge of the area.

Well in control there was less urgency about United in the second-half and it wasn’t until the 70th minute that they added to their lead.

Towers was played in behind the Morecambe defence and he finished clinically.

Amaru Smith had been lively all game and he got his reward on 75 minutes.

Neat build-up play and a final pass from substitute Ty Bell was collected by Smith and finished with aplomb.

The toe between Newcastle Benfield and Gateshead was postponed on Friday night after a pitch inspection and now new date has been announced.

Carlisle United: Worth, Atkinson (McDonough 83) Hodgson (Rafferty 79), Penney, Porter, Rigby, Towers (Bell 73), Lowes, Lambert (Hatton 73), Mason, Smith (Tonge 83).
