Despite a hat-trick from Jamie Looker, Kendal Town had to settle for a draw at Birtley Town.
Manager Dan Kirkup joined the action from the bench to score for Carlisle City in a 2-1 home defeat by Newcastle Benfield.
Penrith became only the second team to shut out Shildon in a 0-0 draw at Frenchfield.
Those were the headline pointers from Cumbria’s three clubs involved in Northern League Division One action.
Kendal were one goal ahead at Birtley three times but on each occasion the home side came back to level.
Looker had put the Mintcakes ahead after only four minutes and that was still the case at half time.
A penalty from Liam Thear two minutes into the second half put Birtley on terms.
But Looker struck quickly on 50 minutes to restore the Kendal lead before Kaleb Young equalised six minutes later.
But a hat-trick goal for Looker on 59 minutes put Kendal ahead again before Joseph Hailes (71) scored the final goal of the game to share the spoils.
Manager Matt Flynn said: “It was a rollercoaster of a game, but that’s football.
“We were excellent in the first-half after making a great start but not so good in the second-half and overall a draw was probably a fair result.”
Carlisle City should have won their home game with Newcastle Benfield instead of going under 2-1.
They missed a load of chances in the first-half and should have turned round nicely in front.
But they went in 1-0 down after Owen Imeson rifled one home from 30 yards.
There were other opportunities in the second half but a killer second goal from Glen Hargrave virtually sealed it for the visitors after 80 minutes.
Manager Dan Kirkup went on and scored after 87 minutes but too late to affect the result.
Sam Smith, the former Workington Reds defender, was playing his last game of the season as he is taking six months out to go travelling the world with his partner.
“He’s been one of our best players since he joined. He’s a really good lad and is going to be missed a lot,” said Kirkup.
Carlisle City had been the last Northern League side to prevent Shildon from scoring in the first game of the season.

The only other time they failed to register a goal was a 3-0 FA Cup defeat to Witton Albion of the NPL.
So there was a lot for Penrith boss Jim Nichols to feel pleased about in their 0-0 draw at Frenchfield.
It was a game of very few opportunities but the way Penrith asked questions and also dealt with the Shildon threat were examples of how the Bonnyblues have progressed during the season.
Here’s what Jim Nichols had to say:
