Workington Reds could almost certainly have done without tonight’s rearranged NPL game.
They entertain Gainsborough Trinity, who will be itching to make amends for Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat by FC United of Manchester.
Trinity are 8th in the table and in their 11 games so far there have only been 21 goals.
They have scored 11 and conceded 10, while their biggest result was a 3-1 win at Hartlepool in an FA Cup replay.
Their reward for that is a home tie against Accrington Stanley and life coverage by TNT Sports.
Workington, who were beaten 2-0 at Morpeth on Saturday, slipped to the bottom of the table.
Because Guiseley are still involved in the FA Trophy there’s no game on Saturday, the final day for applications for their vacant manager’s role.
The board will be hoping to have their new man in place soon after that to take charge of the next League game on November 1 at Stocksbridge Steels who are just above the drop zone.
There have been indications that there has been a good response to the vacancy at Borough Park with some interesting names in the frame.
At the moment Reds are seven points shy of safety, so anything gained tonight will be gratefully received.
It’s also likely that candidates for the job will be at Borough Park for the 7.45pm kick-off.
