All three Cumbrian clubs enjoyed excellent results in the Northern League yesterday.
Kendal Town travelled to Whitley Bay in the match of the day, second versus third and came home with a great point from a 0-0 draw.
It could have been even better because Matt Flynn’s men hit the woodwork three times and the home keeper had to make two outstanding saves.
Chris Cheetham, the Kendal keeper, was not a spectator however and he was also called upon to make a couple of smart saves.
There’s no let up for the Mintcakes, though, as next week they host another of the challengers Boro Rangers at Parkside.
Here’s what chairman Michael O’Neill had to say:
Carlisle City produced a fine second-half performance rto beat Horden 4-1 at Gillford Park.
They had missed a number of good opportunities and it was looking a familiar story when the visitors went ahead through David Doughty after 28 minutes.
But on the stroke of half-time Callum Birdsall levelled from the penalty spot and a minute into the second-half Tom Mahone knocked home the second.
There was no looking back after that as City took charge and were clear-cut winners in the end with further goals from Jordan Irving (61, 82).
They are now looking forward to test themselves next weekend at leaders Guisborough.
Here’s Dan Kirkup’s verdict:
Penrith continued their good form with an impressive 3-0 home win against Easington Colliery.
The first 20 minutes had been pretty even but once Connor Shields had given them a 28th minute lead there was only really one team in it.
Luke Hunter, the league’s top scorer, added the second 10 minutes later and Lewis Jolly made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute.
Penrith have a free date at the week-end before hosting West Allotment Celtic on November 8.
