The battle for the titles continued in the Derwent Valley Asbestos Removals snooker league this week.
In Division One Kevin Basnett narrowly defeated Peter O’Hagan in a tense encounter that went all the way to the deciding frame.
The match began with Basnett asserting early dominance, taking the opening frame comfortably.
O’Hagan, however, responded in spectacular fashion, producing a superb fight-back in the second frame.
With the scores tight, a telling snooker from O’Hagan on the pink created the chance to level the match at 1-1.
The third frame followed a remarkably similar script, with O’Hagan once again forcing a snooker on the pink to edge the frame in another nail-biting finish, to take a 2-1 advantage.
Basnett showed his quality in the closing stages. A composed win in the fourth frame levelled the match at 2-2, setting up a dramatic decider. However, Basnett had saved his best until last, delivering a break of 58 to secure a 3-2 win.
Also in Division One Andrew Mitchelhill took full advantage of home turf to overcome Mark Tunstall with a commanding 4-1 win.
Tunstall struck first blood, taking the opening frame with some steady play, but from then Mitchelhill seized control of the contest taking the second frame with some solid play before raising the tempo further.
Mitchelhill’s confidence showed in the third frame as a break of 31 paved the way to edge ahead for the first time on the night.
Another composed display from Mitchelhill in a closely fought fourth, extended his lead further.
By the final frame, Mitchelhill was in full flow. Another key break, this time a 34, underpinned a decisive victory, securing a deserved 4-1 scoreline.
In Division Two Adam Sowden held his nerve to edge past Paul Smith in a 4-1 thriller.
The tone was set right from the opening frame, with Sowden edging a nail-biter on the final black. Sowden then extended his lead in the second, with some steady scoring to move within a frame of victory.

However, Smith roared back in the third, with a composed display of solid scoring visits.
Momentum looked to be swinging Smith’s way in the fourth frame, but Sowden showed his patience and coolly deposited the final black to once again edge a close encounter.
The final frame followed a similar pattern, with the scores level with only the final black remaining. For the third time in the match it was Sowden who delivered the goods to round off a much closer match than the 4-1 result suggests.
Chris Hunter produced a commanding performance to seal a 4-1 victory over Division Two title rival Stephen Jackson.
The match began on a knife edge, with Hunter narrowly edging the opening frame.
However, Jackson hit back strongly in the second to level the contest at 1-1. From there, Hunter seized control producing a composed display to take the third frame, before holding off a late charge from Jackson in the fourth.
By the final frame, Hunter was in full flow. Some fluent scoring sealed the tie and completed a deserved 4-1 overall result to maintain the chase on Division leader Jackson.
In a postponed Division One fixture, Kevin Basnett produced a powerful performance to overcome nearest rival Ryan Ismay by 4-1.
The match began with a close first frame, with Basnett edging it to take the early advantage despite a 38 break from Ismay. Basnett then doubled his lead with a composed win in the second.
A break of 44 from Basnett was instrumental in establishing an unassailable 3-0 advantage. Ismay briefly threatened a comeback, taking the fourth frame in commanding fashion with the assistance of a break of 30.
However, Basnett responded emphatically in the fifth, with an excellent 50 break to close the match out in style and wrap up a decisive 4-1 result.
