Cockermouth’s Jennings Brewery is planning to open a store in a Lake District town.
The brewery has applied to take over the former ice cream shop on Keswick’s Main Street.
It wants to create a retail shop, selling bottled ales, souvenirs and merchandise.
The application has been considered by Keswick Town Council.
The shop would be open from 8am to 11pm, Monday to Sunday, and would be supplying alcohol off the premises.
The town council has supported in principle the licensing application.
But it was noted that the removal of an unauthorised canopy at the front of the property was subject to enforcement action from the Lake District National Park Authority.
“We request that the proposed new use is not allowed to start until the canopy has been removed,” said town councilor Steve Harwood.
- Councillors also considered a licensing application for a small cafe bistro in “a small recess” off Lake Road from which ice cream was sold.
The Keswick Kitchen business would be located in one room and the dining area and kitchen would be open plan. There would be seats for 16 people and a further 12 outside.
Recorded music would be played indoors, Monday to Sunday, from 10am to 11pm. On New Year’s Eve all licensable activities, including the supply of alcohol, would be extended to 1am.
The town council supported the application and made no comments.
