Two men arrested as part of a probe into a blaze at an Eden Valley garden centre have been released on bail.

Emergency services received the report of a fire during the early hours of Wednesday, October 15.

It had broken out at Larch Cottage Nurseries at Melkinthorpe, near Penrith.

No one was injured during the incident, gutted a potting shed where the business had originally started.

Firefighters tackled the fire for almost two hours.

An investigation was launched and the business remained open as the fire did not occur in public area.

On Friday, Cumbria police said two men, both aged 23, had been arrested on suspicion of arson. They were taken into police custody for questioning.

A spokesman said today that the two men had since been released on police bail.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact police on 101 or make a report online via www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it, quoting log 8 of 15 October 2025.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
